Greco-Roman wrestlers en route to Kazakhstan

TEHRAN, Mar. 14 (MNA) – Iran national Greco-Roman team will leave Iran for Kazakhstan on Tuesday to attend the 2016 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The 2016 Asian Qualification Tournament will convene from March 18–20 in Astana of Kazakhstan where the top two athletes in each weight category will find their way to wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

At last year’s world championships in Las Vegas, Iran qualified three of the six Greco-Roman weight categories for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – 75kg, 85kg and 98kg while the three remaining categories being targeted by Iran in Astana will be 59kg, 66kg and 130kg.

Accordingly, Hamid Surian (59kg), Omid Norouzi (66kg) and Bashir Babajanzadeh (130kg) will depart for Kazakhstan on Tuesday morning to secure places at Rio Olympics.

The Iranian squad will be led by the national team coach Mohammad Bana as well as the technical staff of the Greco-Roman team.
